Kevin Matthews, CPA, SHRM-CP, MST, MBA, MAcc

Kevin has more than 15 years of financial and accounting experience and 10 years of HR experience. He specializes in International Taxation, Real Estate transactions, Government Contractors, and other Small Businesses (corporations, partnerships and sole-proprietorships. Mr. Matthews came to the Accounting industry after over 8 years of service in the US Navy.
Kevin has experience with international tax reporting, including passive foreign investment companies (PFICs), controlled foreign corporations (CFCs), and other forms of financial reporting (FinCEN 114 and other foreign financial asset reporting). He also has international tax treaty application experience to arrive at the best decision possible for taxpayers living overseas or those who have arrived on shore.
Kevin has participated in projects for corporate dissolutions, corporate reorganizations, and formations of many different business entities. He believes in doing what is best for the clients using in-depth tax/accounting knowledge and familiarity with the business, through an interactive relationship with the client.
In his earlier professional roles, he served in the US Navy in the Aviation community as a Naval Flight Officer on the P-3 Orion. During his time in the US Navy, Kevin served in the Middle East, including Iraq, Europe, the Caribbean and both Central and South America. In addition to his flight duties, he servied in a variety of accounting, finance and administrative roles. Prior to entering the US Navy, he worked in non-profit in accounts payable, inventory and payroll accounting functions.
Kevin is very involved in Veteran outreach through his participation in the Military Officer’s Association of America (MOAA) as a blog poster on financial and transitional issues. He is also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He volunteers his time to work with those, who are leaving the service and seek to better plan for the future. He is also involved in the Virginia Society for Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA), formerly writing articles for the magazine Disclosures.
He earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Accountancy from Gonzaga University and his Master’s Degree in Taxation at American University. He is a member of the Virginia Society of CPAs, the Maryland Association of CPAs, Dulles Area Association of Realtors, Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors, Japanese Commerce Association of Washington, DC, Japanese Commerce Association of Washington, DC, Society of Human Resource Management and active in the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce.
Kevin contributes to his community through involvement in his local Civil Air Patrol, where he serves as a Cadet (youth) Development Officer at the National Capital Wing. He also participates actively in emergency exercises and training missions, both flying and leading ground teams. He is constantly driven to give back to the communities, which have helped him to be great at what he does.
